Scott Thompson did our wedding reception in November 2011.

We had a live band performing for the first part of our reception, but Scott was flexible enough to come and set up and be there the entire time. He also provided some up lighting for us as well.

We found his online song selection process perfect. I was able to pick out the songs I wanted to hear and flag some as ‘must play’ and some as ‘do not play’. I thought this was fantastic. Scott was able to quickly get an idea for our music preference and did a great job filling in with more music during the night.

Scott Thompson from Thompson Entertainment was by far the perfect DJ for my wedding. From the first e-mail we sent (he called us within 20 minutes) to the clean-up after the wedding reception, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Scott met with us to discuss his services and was very personable from the beginning. He also does up lighting for your venue (in any color and way less expensive than ANY one else in the area) We signed the contract that day as we were so impressed with him. Scott sets up a client information page just for you where you enter all of your wedding information. You can listen to songs for all the special wedding events and choose them all right there on the site. It was so user friendly and made the process quick and painless. Scott answered any and all questions immediately. He also acts as the MC for the day, coordinating all of your events at the reception if you don’t have a wedding planner or organizer. He comes early to set up and was completely prepared the entire night. The up lighting was amazing. I highly suggest it. From the moment we arrived at the reception, he came outside and greeted us and let us know what was going on inside for cocktail hour. He went and got all the wedding party to be introduced and organized it all. The entire night he played off the crowd and kept the dance floor packed (which was not an easy fete with our crowd) Everyone was asking him for his card all night and 2 of my friends that are engaged are planning on contacting him for their wedding now. Zumba Fitness DJ @ the Rosen Centre

I had the opportunity to be the DJ of the Orlando Zumba Fitness event at the Rosen Centre that was held on July 6, 2011. About 400 people showed up for the high energy dancing. All of the Zumba instructors were great to work with. Eileen hired me to provide the sound and DJ the music they wanted. I brought out all 4 of my Mackie speakers and my 18″ subwoofer, so the sound was incredible.

Preparing For Your Wedding

Congratulations on your engagement and thank you for choosing me as the DJ/MC for your wedding! I certainly look forward to it and I know it will be a fantastic time.

I wrote this guide to help you in the next steps of the planning process to let you know what I need as your DJ and also to bring up some things you may not have thought about. Think of this as sort of a check list.

Face to Face Meeting

If we have not already met in person, I highly recommend getting together at some point to go over some initial details. This is generally about 30 to 45 minutes, and a great opportunity to meet face to face. If you are planning from out of state or cannot meet, that is okay, this can all be done through email and phone calls.

Client Login

On my website I have a client login for each of my clients. You have probably already received a client login from me (if not, let me know and I’ll create it for you). This client login allows you to handle some of the planning aspects of the night, as well as allowing you to choose special songs for your wedding.

To login, just click the direct client login link I provided in the email. It looks like this: http://clients.theorlandodj.com/client/index.asp?Date=12/27/2011&Password=mypasswd

Once logged in, you will see the screen below. Here you can choose between the planning tool, music requests, and contact form. When making changes in these tools please remember to click the “Save” button or else your changes will not be saved.

Planning Form

The planning form asks questions such as your wedding party lineup order, who is doing the toast, and many other important items. There is even a section at the bottom that allows you to add additional notes.

Music Requests

The music requests section has about 75,000+ songs to choose from. Don’t worry though, because choosing your special songs is incredibly easy. At the top of this section you will see the “Most Requested” button. It will allow you to see a list of the top songs in each category (Overall Top 200, Top 50′s, Top 60′s, Top 70′s, Top 80′s, Top 90′s, Top 00′s, Top 10′s, Bride & Groom, Bride & Father, Groom & Mother, Bridal Party, Bouquet, Garter, Cake Cutting, Introductions). This is great because you can preview the songs and read the lyrics by clicking on the little icons next to the songs. If you are planning far in advance (such as one year) you may want to wait to pick certain songs. Songs that you like now may be songs you are tired of when the big day arrives.

Guest Requests

There is a feature in the online tools that I can enable called “Guest Requests.” If you would like to allow your guests to anonymously choose songs, they can do it through the “Guest Request” login. You can see the songs your guests are choosing and even decide if you don’t want certain ones played. This login is separate from your private client login and can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc. Let me know if you want me to enable this feature in the client login.

Ceremony Music

Ceremony music is not in the client login unfortunately, however I will provide you with some traditional and non-traditional choices I have found to be good on the internet. There are many different versions to some of the popular songs such as “Canon in D” or the “Bridal March”, so please make sure to let me know which version you want. This is VERY important so I can make sure to play the correct version.

Here are song choices you may want to think about for your ceremony. Note: these types of songs are not in the client login and will need to be chosen separately:

Guest Seating – generally a mix of soft music (ex: Classical, Smooth Jazz, or any type of music you wish)
Parents
Groom and/or Groomsmen
Bridesmaids
Bride and Father
Sand Ceremony – some couples have a sand ceremony and play a song
Recessional – when you are leaving the aisle after being married

Itinerary

If you need help with planning the itinerary of your ceremony and reception, let me know. I have performed at many weddings and have seen many different variations of how to setup the night. Here is a sample itinerary of a five hour wedding to get some ideas flowing:

One Week Before the Wedding Phone Call

About one or two weeks before your wedding I recommend having a quick phone conversation (usually 10 to 15 minutes) to go over the final details with you. I wait until this time because generally during a long planning process certain details change and many times these are details I need to know about. This is also a good opportunity to go over the pronunciation of the names of your wedding party for the introduction to the reception.

The Big Day

Finally, it’s the big day! The day of your wedding I arrive two to three hours prior to your guests arriving, depending on how much setup is required. I will speak with the vendors (photographer, videographer, caterer, etc.) about the itinerary to make sure they are on board with how the day is going to happen.

Wedding at Shades of Green

I had the privilege of being referred to Nick and Candace as their DJ/MC by Crystal Zanoni at “I Do” Weddings and Events. What a great couple Nick and Candace are. On Saturday, January 16, 2011 their ceremony took place at Shades of Green in Lake Buena Vista. The ceremony was right next to the reception and cocktail hour. It went perfectly. She chose the “Bridal March” by Jonathan Cain as her song to walk down the aisle. It is one of the most moving pieces of music I have heard for a processional. The cocktail hour was full of energy with their 140 guests. The reception was fantastic with red as their chosen color. The cake had red roses and looked fantastic with the red LED up lighting. See photos I took with my iPhone below. Their guests danced to their favorite genres of music and various requests throughout the night. It was a great time. Last night, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 Dena and Ryan were married at Leu Gardens in the Rose Garden. I was not at the ceremony, just the reception which was held at 310 Lakeside in Downtown Orlando. The reception was a blast and all the people were great. The music genre they chose was mostly dance 80s music and they literally danced all night. Being their wedding DJ was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed all the impromptu speeches as well. Dan and Tiffany Wedding

Dan and Tiffany were married on October 2, 2010 at the Hammock Dunes Club in Palm Coast, FL. The venue is located on the beach which made for a great wedding ceremony. The weather was great and the reception hall was fabulous, one of my absolute favorite venues. The club house is located inside the second floor overlooking the ceremony and the beach. I had the privilege of being their wedding DJ / MC. All of their family and friends were fantastic and loved dancing to 80s music. Dan and Tiffany were great to work with and also had a great time. I can’t wait to see the photos. Congratulations to you both!

James and Kylie Wedding

Wow, what an amazing wedding James and Kylie’s turned out to be. They were married September 25, 2010 at River Front Park at Cocoa Village. The ceremony was beautiful and was followed up by the reception at the Space Coast Realtor Association. The reception was on the second floor, which was a perfect space for having weddings. They chose 12 LED Up Lights in purple, which looked fantastic in the room. After they did their planned exit at 11pm, they came back with the wedding party and I DJed the after party until 12am. It was an absolute blast. They were literally dancing on the tables and chairs. Congratulations to James and Kylie!
